Mr. Chipman-Bergsma earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, Spanish, and Political Science from Saginaw Valley State University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2011. As an undergraduate student, he completed an Honors Thesis in environmental criminal enforcement and studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico, becoming fluent in Spanish. Upon graduation from college, Mr. Chipman-Bergsma attended the University of Michigan Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2014. While in law school, he spent a full-semester as an intern with the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C.
Mr. Chipman-Bergsma’s practice includes all areas of insurance defense law, including Michigan no-fault third party liability, first party no-fault, boating accidents, sports-related accidents, dog-bites, construction accidents, property damage, products liability, stray-voltage claims and coverage disputes. Mr. Chipman-Bergsma’s practice also involves matters pertaining to employment litigation, employee benefits and executive compensation, real property law, consumer-protection law, real-estate litigation, creditor’s rights, commercial litigation, and commercial transactions. He is admitted to practice law in all State Courts in Michigan, Indiana, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Kalamazoo County Bar Association.
Born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Mr. Chipman-Bergsma enjoys Michigan’s lakes, festivals, and sports teams. He can often be found cycling or running the trails around the Kalamazoo Community or enjoying live music wherever it is being played.
